Symbolising land, sea and air – Hainan Expo 2022 mascots are revealed

Release time: 2022-03-05 09:20        Source: The Moodie Davitt Report

CHINA. The Hainan Provincial Bureau of International Economic Development (Hainan IEDB) this week revealed the new mascots for the China International Consumer Products Expo (Hainan Expo) to be held in Haikou from 12 to 16 April.

Once again the mascots are based on the famous Hainan Gibbon, unique to the island. They are the rarest and most endangered primates in the world, according to Hainan IEDB.

According to a report in New Hainan (owned by Hainan Hinews Media Co, The Moodie Davitt Report’s exclusive strategic partner in Hainan province) just 30 or so Hainan Gibbons remain, a status that fits well with the Expo’s values of ecological protection and green consumption (including an environmentally friendly exhibition).

Hainan Provincial Bureau of International Economic Development Global Media Officer Ruslan Tulenov led the press conference this week to make the announcement

This year’s mascots once again draw on additional Hainan elements – land, sea and air. Key Hainan industries derived from agriculture (seed), the sea and aerospace form the basis of the mascot series dubbed ‘Hainan Industrial Gibbon’.

Individually, the mascots have been named Hainan Planting Gibbon, Hainan Diving Gibbon and Hainan Astronaut Gibbon.

“The new images symbolise that the Hainan Free Trade Port and the Consumer Expo will open their arms and invite domestic and foreign sectors of society to share development opportunities,” New Hainan reporded

“The mascot of the Consumer Expo is deeply embedded with the three major industries in Hainan, which will also promote the convergence of Hainan’s ecology and industry, and the integration of the Consumer Expo with the development of the Free Trade Port.”

This year’s Expo, the follow-up to the hugely successful inaugural event held last May, is themed ‘Share open opportunities, co-create a better life’. France will be the guest-of-honour country this year.

The 2022 Expo will once again be hosted at the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center

The exhibition area will span over 100,000sq m, 80% of which will be set up for overseas exhibitors featuring wines & spirits, beauty, fashion, jewellery, food and confectionery, medicine and other professional services.

Hainan IEDB said that this year’s Expo is expected to become a leading platform for global consumer fashion, with several well-known brands due to  release their latest products during the event.
